Promoting Positive Youth Development

One of the programs we’ve offered for the last 5 years we have served more than 30,000 meals.

Embracing Outreach is a not-for-profit organization committed to positive youth development in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas. Embracing Outreach takes pride in the meals we provide to the youth of North Texas. Our meals are prepared by professionals with current Food Handling Certificates. All of our meals meet the Texas Department of Agriculture’s requirements and are appropriately packed and sealed.

We have served the DFW area since 2013, allowing us to develop a positive relationship with the cities we serve. We strive to provide a holistic approach in order to benefit not only each child but also their related family. We work with community leaders to make a difference in the lives of our children and to be a resource for families in time of need.

AS OF TODAY, WE HAVE SERVED MORE THAN 30,000 MEALS.

“Serving the community one child at a time!”

We would love to partner with you to ensure that the needs of children within your community are met during the summer break.

Through your partnership with us, we can offer the children free hot or cold breakfast and lunch, from Monday through Friday. Our focus is addressing the growing need for resources and support to our local community regarding hungry children.

Our program benefits children ages 1-18 years of age by providing a meal and snack, as well as working with families to equip and empower them with information and skills to ensure a healthy future, both mentally and physically. All of our volunteers receive intense education and training in our area of focus.

Childhood hunger is a growing problem in the city of Dallas. Childhood hunger statistics are staggering: In the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) alone, over 87% (136,000+) students receive subsidized breakfast and/or lunch. For too many of these kids, school meals are the only nutrition they can count on. The sad fact is that some children go without any food from lunch one day to breakfast the next, almost 18 hours.

In one study, 6- to 11-year old children from households with insufficient food has significantly lower arithmetic scores and were more likely to have repeated a grade than children from food-sufficient households.

1 in 4 children do not eat regular meals each day because of the lack of food in their home. Hungry children are twice as likely to be absent from school than their peers who are not suffering from hunger. Texas ranks in the top four states with the highest rate of food-insecure children. Studies have shown that children from households with insufficient food have poorer test scores.

We would love the opportunity to offer this service to your community, and we are asking for your assistance in making this happen. We offer hot or cold breakfast and lunch, from Monday through Friday. Our team will take care of everything in terms of supplies, set up, etc...The only thing we are requesting is a central location set up during our operating hours.

We can be reached via phone or email at the contacts listed on this website. Please do not hesitate to contact us regarding any questions or concerns you may have.

Biography

Our founder, Shambresha Phillips, is a native of Dallas, Texas. Even when she was a little girl, she wanted to help people. She would often pass out food to homeless people in the middle of downtown, next to the water build. During Sunday mornings, she and her family would also stop by downtown. They would then give homeless people food and invite them to church.

As Shambresha was growing up, she would see how her mother often took in patients who have been abandoned by their families. Her mother taught her the value of being a blessing to others. By watching her mother help people whose families couldn’t take care of them, she developed a heart for service and a passion for helping people in need. For more than 8 years, she has been taking action to help those in need.

In 2010, she founded Embracing Outreach. Through this organization, she hopes to help others get rid of their negative thoughts and embrace a new outlook on life. She wants to spread this message: “No matter what circumstances you were born into, you have the power and ability to change your life.”
